Every year we organize a Benefit Concert for the Mulanje Mission Hospital to raise funds for a specific project to improve conditions at the hospital. In 2008 the Children’s Ward was renovated, in 2009 the Labour Ward was modernized, then in 2010 improvements were made to the Men’s ward. In 2011 we raised sufficient funds to provide solar panels for the Children’s ward, which is where reliable electricity is most needed. In 2012 the proceeds helped to refurbish the operating theatre.
The 2014 benefit concert was held on Wednesday January 29. Tim Kliphuis and Friends gave a fantastic concert. The proceeds of the concert went towards the improvement of the water supply and sanitation of the hospital.
The 2015 concert will be held on Friday 27th November and will feature Ricky Ross from Deacon Blue, one of the most successful bands that emerged in the UK in the 1980s. To broaden the appeal, we will also be featuring a classical ensemble who will play and hopefully combine with Ricky on one or two numbers. All proceeds will go towards to making essential improvement to the hospital’s antenatal ward.
More information about these and other projects can be found in the Mulanje Mission Hospital reports.
Impulsis, Wilde Ganzen & Rotary Club Amsterdam International
Each of these fundraising events has received generous support from the Rotary Club Amsterdam International and other donors, raising significant amounts of money for the projects. For example in the last three years, together with sponsorship from Impulsis (2009) and Wilde Ganzen (2010 and 2011), we have been able to send € 26,000 (2009), € 19,500 (2010) and € 18,160 (2010).
