Our minister’s weekly letter

Categories: Church,Events,Newsletter,Outreach

Dear Friends,

Greetings everybody!

As I expect you will know, prime minister Mark Rutte gave his press conference on Tuesday evening and the news of the coronavirus infection is not good, and this has led to a tightening of restrictions here in the Netherlands, as elsewhere. For this reason, the group that is monitoring the virus can see no grounds for returning to ‘live’ worship after this Sunday and have resolved to continue live-streamed services without a congregation for at least the next four weeks. It’s very disappointing, but we have no choice.

And a word about this coming Sunday: one of the casualties of the lockdown has been the loss of a planned commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the journey of the pilgrims to the New World, journeying first on The Speedwell and then on The Mayflower, commemorated in our church and particularly in the stained glass window in the chancel. I have written about this previously in The Record and a book launch and a public lecture on the subject were planned for back in May.

The set Biblical text for this coming Sunday presents a good opportunity to reflect on this event and I will be doing so and ensuring that we at least do something to commemorate this important anniversary.

The programme for this WEEK: below:

Sunday 10.30, live- streamed service
The service will be led this week by Pastor Lance. Our passage this Sunday is Matthew 22:15-22. You can access the live-stream at 10.30 HERE.

Prayer:
In a time like this, there may be people who feel especially in need of prayer either for themselves or for someone else. There is a small group of people in the congregation who take it in turns on Sundays to be available after the service to pray for anyone in need – so, if you would like prayer or have a particular prayer request please contact Margaret Richards on margaretanne_richards@hotmail.com and she and the others will pray accordingly.

A word about finance….
Please note that in this period when we are not meeting together there is a way of giving to the church on this website. Please use the PayPal donation button on the right.

God bless you all and keep us united as a church family – and safe and well.
