Each year on the first Friday of March, Christians (Men, Women and Children … Protestants, Roman Catholics, Orthodox, Evangelical, Baptists, Methodists…) from all over the world gather in small groups or large congregations using the same theme written by women of a particular country, chosen by the World Day of Prayer International Committee. That country becomes the focus of prayer and understanding. This year the topic is “RECEIVE CHILDREN, RECEIVE ME’. Written by the women of Cuba.
Through the World Day of Prayer, Christians are encouraged to become aware of the other countries and cultures. They are also encouraged take up the burdens of others, to sympathize with the problems of other countries and cultures and to pray with and for them. They are further encouraged to become aware of their own talents and to use them in the service of society. The World Day of Prayer aims to demonstrate that prayer and action are inseparable and that both have immeasurable influence in the world.

Some prayers for inspiration
A Child’s Prayer of thankfulness
God of love, we thank you for this time we have shared.
We ask you in whatever we do, to always be full of our love for you. Use us to find and receive friends with joy, and may we continue to serve you as we care for our neighbours, communities, families, friends from school, and also the animals and the whole of nature.
Send us now with the desire to open the doors of our heart and life to you and give us your blessing in the name of your son Jesus.
Amen.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
You are our sun our light our strength.
Help us to grow in Your love.
Through our prayers, Lord, grant that we all may come to know You better.
And when things go wrong and we feel bad or alone,
Let us pray.
Let us pray for Your forgiveness,
Let us pray for Your guidance,
For You are the strength of the world.
In our world so many children and families are struggling, Lord.
We pray that they know of our love and concern.
Lord, grant us, Your people, the strength that is needed to be brave in the face of challenges.
Above all, Lord, help us not to forget to thank You for Your loving guidance.
We praise you Lord for the Love of children, for the love of families and friends.
We thank You for Your love which You show to both sinner and saint.
Enfold us in Your love and guide All Your people to live purer lives, caring for each other and especially remind us of our role in caring for Your world.
In Your Holy Name we pray,
Amen.
