The English Reformed Church, located in the Begijnhof in the heart of Amsterdam, has been hosting chamber music concerts since the early 1970s. With its outstanding acoustics, the beautiful 15th-century building quickly became and has remained a favourite venue for musicians and audience alike. Several renowned musicians received their start here, and many still delight the ERC audience.

Programme: AUK-kamerkoor goes to Japan!

The choir performs works by the Japanese composers Toru Takemitsu and Kenji Yamamoto.

In addition you will hear compositions by the Americans Libby Larsen and Gary Kent Walth, and the Fin Jaakko Mäntyjärvi.

What all the works have in common is that they are inspired by Japanese proverbs or poetry and are sung in Japanese.

Between the vocal works intermezzi will be performed on traditional Japanese instruments

In this recital with works from Sounds of My Country and Sounds of April improvisation is interwoven with compositions in which traditional Portuguese music is associated with classical music.

Pedro Emanuel Pereira, a teacher at the Amsterdam Conservatory, presents and accompanies a world première song cycle performed by the eminent soprano Sofia Pedro.
